Cherwell Gundog Club aim to run training for gundogs of all standards.
Our courses are run by experienced gundog competitors and instructors. The number of attendees is strictly limited to ensure a good ratio.
All courses must be pre-booked and dogs must be registered for the entire course. If you are unable to attend a particular session for any reason the cost is not refundable.
All dogs attending these courses must be sociable and fully vaccinated.
Training Course dates for 2018 were on the following Sundays:
15th Apr, 13th May, 17th Jun, 15th Jul, 19th Aug, 23rd Sep
Arrangements for courses in 2019 will not be decided until around February but the courses are expected to start in April. We are currently seeking members feedback on their preferences.
Retriever - Beginners Course
The beginners course is for dogs that have learned the basics of healing on/off the lead, can be recalled and will retrieve when on their own. The aim of the course is to build on this base so that they can act on these commands in a group environment which is much more exciting. With this in mind, we would expect a dog to be at least 9 months old. Through the course we will build on the above and work on steadiness, marked and memory retrieves, encluding directional commands. Booking form below.
Retriever - Intermediate Course
The intermediate training course is for dogs that have started gundog training. Before the course begins they must be able to: heel, sit & stay, recall, be steady, marked retrieve, memory retrieve. Through the course you will build your skills, handling at a distance, longer unseen retrieves, jumps, split retrieves, varying terrain. Booking form below.
We do not yet have the capacity to run an advanced training course However, we do organise away days with professional trainers which members will be advised of by email.
Spaniel Training Course
In 2018 we conducted spaniel training on a 'one to one' basis on the above Course dates. The course was 6 sessions of 30 mins.
Short Notice Opportunities
Throughout the year the club runs one off training events specialising in different things depending on the opportunity. These will take place at different venues and depending on the nature of the day will be suitable for different levels of dog. These have included 'water training' and 'cold game training'. Details will, typically, be sent by email a few days ahead.
